CONDITIONS FOR RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
Roman Catholics who have received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion must fulfill the following conditions before receiving Holy Communion: 1) the state of grace (freedom from mortal sin), 2) the intention (not out of routine or human respect), and 3) observance of the Communion fast
(refraining from food or drink one hour before Communion).

HOW TO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion may be received on the tongue or in the hand and may be given under the form of bread alone or under both species [1390]. When the minister of the Eucharist, Deacon, or Priest addresses the communicant with the words, "The Body of Christ [Cialo Chrystusa, Corpus Christi]," "The Blood of Christ [Krew Chrystusa]," the communicant responds "Amen" to each.

FOR THOSE OF OTHER CHRISTIAN FAITHS
Because Catholics believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of the reality of the oneness of faith, life, and worship, members of those churches with whom we are not yet fully united are ordinarily not admitted to Holy Communion. We pray that these divisions will lessen and finally disappear. Members of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish National Catholic Church are urged to respect the discipline of their own churches. According to Roman Catholic discipline, the Code of Canon Law does not object to the reception of communion by Christians of these churches. All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another.
