Media Appearances & Photography

As a public intellectual, I have been interviewed in numerous local and national media on Polish American topics, gender issues, and popular culture. I have appeared in documentary films as well as newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and The Christian Science Monitor. I have has served as a Curator for Museum Exhibitions and Consultant to arts organizations, documentarians, and grantees of the National Endowment for the Humanities, among others. In addition to my scholarly consulting, I am also an award winning designer of educational multimedia and a published documentary photographer whose works have appeared in scholarly journals and popular magazines. An award-winning pioneer in the field of digital multimedia memory arts, my graphic designs have been widely published throughout the arts and crafts industry, appearing in over 100 books and magazines.


Professional & Editorial Service

I have served as Guest Editor for a special edition on Polka Studies of the scholarly journal, Polish American Studies, as well as serving on the Editorial Board of the scholarly journals Ad Americam (Poland) and Polish American Studies (US). I currently serve on the International Advisory Board for the Cultural Studies and Marxism Book Series from Rowman & Littlefield. I have served as Chair for several international scholarly conferences. I also serve on the Academic Excellence Committee of the Board of my alma mater, Resurrection College Preparatory High School for Girls in Chicago, Illinois. At my home institution of Columbia College Chicago, I am a Co-Founder and former Director of the Cultural Studies Program; I have served multiple terms as Humanities Coordinator as well as Coordinator of Women & Gender Studies. I serve actively on the Department Curriculum Committee and Departmental Search Committees.


Awards & Honors

Among my awards and honors are the following: the Columbia College Chicago Excellence in Teaching Award (2017),a Fulbright Teaching Fellowship (Poland 2011); a Fulbright Research Fellowship (Germany 1992); the Harmonia Grant from the Polish National Science Center (Narodowe Centrum Nauki), which funded a multi-year study of the impact of social media on the experience of international students; both the Creative Arts Prize and the Swastek Prize (for best scholarly article of the year in Polish American Studies) from the Polish American Historical Association; the DAAD fellowship at the Albert-Ludwigs Universitaet in Freiburg, Germany; an NEH Grant for the Understanding American Communities Project; Faculty Development and Technology Grants; and the Dissertation Fellowship of the American Association of University Women, etc.
